Nija “Things We Do” Review: From Hitmaker to Main Character

Nija “Things We Do” Review: From Hitmaker to Main Character

Release: 23 Jan 2026 “Things We Do” by Nija is a post-breakup R&B track about being newly single, unapologetic, and very clear on what comes next.

Nija Charles has spent years writing songs that other people get famous for. Beyoncé, Ariana Grande, the list is long and the credits often buried. This is her continuing case for why she deserves to be the one in the frame.

She sets it up without ceremony: “I had a man last year, but tonight I’m single / Tryna do things, make you feel like a nympho.”

A soft bassline loops beneath washed-out reverb, giving the track a close, late-night atmosphere. The groove stays steady without pushing for a dramatic release.

What stops it from being just another post-breakup track is the self-aware humour running underneath.

“It’s just how I’m built, it’s how I’m programmed, okay?” she says near the end, almost apologising for herself while completely refusing to.

She delivers it like she’s already tested the reaction and decided she doesn’t care.

As a writer she knows where the hook needs to be and how long to hold it. She’s spent years being the name in the small print. This time she isn’t behind the curtain.
