“Flourish” is an intimate song from Shaina Hayes about growth, love and becoming who you are meant to be. It is warm, generous, and unhurried enough so you can appreciate every stunning element. This is one you want to take your time over and listen on repeat to find new qualities.
The song is built on acoustic guitar and pedal steel from Hayes’ longtime collaborators Francis Ledoux and David Marchand, the production sits in a warm sonic landscape where every texture feels necessary. The pedal gives the track an alt-country undertow while Hayes’ vocals sway and drift above it.
The song’s title was drawn from Irish philosopher John O’Donohue’s concept of becoming your most radiant self, and Hayes has taken that idea and made it personal and specific.
Shaina Hayes is a singer-songwriter, who splits her time between touring and running a vegetable farm in Shigawake, Quebec.
This is her first new material since 2024’s Kindergarten Heart (truly beautiful – a must listen) and it arrives ahead of a European run supporting The Barr Brothers.
“Flourish” is the first release from Hayes’ upcoming third studio album. If the songs are anything like this, then prepare for an enlightening experience.
