Slothrust Releases The Long Awaited Music Video For ‘Peach’

By Lucy LernerApril 1, 2019
Slothrust

SlothrustWe first heard the enigmatic ‘Peach‘ last summer and now the LA-based, Boston-born alt-rock band Slothrust is back with their long-awaited official music video. ‘Peach’ is from their fourth full-length album ‘The Pact’ which was produced and engineered by multi-Grammy award nominee Billy Bush (Garbage/The Naked & Famous/Neon Tree) and released last fall.

We still can’t get enough of the track, but the visuals match it perfectly with a cartoon/real-life crossover which reminds me a bit of the 1959 Walt Disney animated musical fantasy film ‘Sleeping Beauty’ with some of its animal characters. Leah Wellbaum (vocals/ guitar) says, “I’ve had this vision in mind for ‘Peach’ for a long time and it’s so exciting to manifest it. Music is potent to all creatures, and I love this fairytale-esque idea of a song that is so magnetic that the creatures of the forest can’t help but be pulled in to join the magic.”

Previously she had commented on the track itself and it seems the childlike fairytale quality was a theme which was born with the song, “‘Peach’ is a song that embraces the inner-child and all that comes with it. There is this special way we free associate when we are young that seems to fade away with age and experience. It’s important to me to keep that curiosity alive and intentionally access feelings when you felt them for the first time – both light and dark.”

The band is fresh off their sold-out UK tour in January and they are renowned for their live shows. They love showing off their guitar skills and inventive covers such as Britney’s ‘Baby, One More Time’. Their recent album ‘The Pact’ explores various genres and themes – the band’s music is very absorbing and expressive. It’s edgy and also softly malleable.

Wellbaum says writing is “a really liberating experience” and it’s liberating for the listeners and viewers too. The creative ‘Peach’ music video is testament to that.
