Sci-fi games wouldn’t be what they are without the music that defines them so well.

From futuristic military tunes to more eerie ones that bring out a scare factor, sci-fi music pairs well with many of the games we’ve played over the past few decades.

Let’s combine nostalgia and our love for the sci-fi games we’ve enjoyed and come up with 12 amazingly memorable soundtracks that still stick in our heads.

Wing Commander 4

The upbeat soundtrack from Wing Commander 4 is one of the most memorable for fans of the game.

It’s serious yet whimsical at the same time and denotes a space military feel that makes for long gameplay and fond memories.

Dawn of War II

There are many good tracks attributed to the Dawn of War II sci-fi adventure, as well as good storylines that are enhanced by that music.

Our favorite is the Angels of Death Space Marine theme, which just gets you in the mood to keep playing and get better.

Dawn of War II remains one of the most beloved MMORPG games of our time, and music just enhances the experience.

Doom 3D

Of course no one will ever forget Doom 3D’s, At Doom’s Gate metal tune that got many riled up for some violent gaming.

Were you one of those players who left the game hanging on the menu screen so you could hear it over and over again?

Mars Matrix

Not many gamers still play Mars Matrix, but die-hard fans will always remember that amazing tune on Stage 1, Armed Satellite Phobos.

This quick-paced track paired well with a game where players had to think fast and react even faster.

Star Control 2

The creators of Star Control 2 were smart enough to get others to write their music.

The entire game is just one long stream of sample music that’s been bundled together for an overall retro feel.

But their selection was excellent, and this conglomerate of music still keeps players’ minds focused as they aim to advance.

StarCraft (Protoss Theme)

Some people always play Protoss when taking on a StarCraft challenge.

This was usually because of the race’s abilities and technology in the game.

But others simply loved the music that went with this selection, which was different and distinguishable from the Terran and Zerg music, respectively.

Metroid Prime

Even though Metroid is still a widely played game, the music sounds like something from the Nintendo DS era.

It goes on and on with variations throughout and is one of the most loved game music bundles of all time.

Not only do we love this music, but we also love how the game’s background sounds complement it so well.

Surviving Mars

Surviving Mars is a relatively new city-building and science discovery game with extremely relaxing music.

This music is designed to help players focus on the ever-changing demands of their Mars colonists as they juggle building, design, science, and technology in one game.

Mass Effect (Breeding Ground)

With a slight touch of horror, Mass Effect’s Breeding Ground track is a keen favorite among fans of the game.

It can be described as epic, suspenseful, and motivating all at once.

While the game is filled with some horror elements, we think the music has been perfectly designed for this type of player.

They Are Billions

They Are Billions is a post-apocalyptic Steampunk game that smoothly transitions as the danger levels lower and increase throughout the game.

At one point, you’ll be feeling confident in your city-building skills, but suddenly a horde of zombies will break through your defenses and create a snowball effect of devastation as you panic and listen to the altered tune.

Axiom Verge (Amnesia)

There’s a beautiful eeriness to Amnesia, the second track on Axiom Verge’s list of songs.

It transitions from slow to fast as it plays through, pairing so well with this game’s intuitive concept.

Perhaps not nearly as popular as it used to be, Axiom Verge still has a large cult fanbase, and many still enjoy the strange music and even stranger graphics from this classic PC game.

Endless Space

Nothing beats Flawless Theory from the game Endless Space. This track can put you in an absolute trance as you fly through the stars and build space stations in this sci-fi game.

It really is most players’ favorite music track in the game and continues to wow even those who have never played the game.

Final Thoughts

We hope you agree with some of these choices and that they’ve brought up some nostalgia for you.

New games are coming out all the time, so this is a list that’s sure to evolve over time!
