Frustration And Loss Of Hope Portrayed In Deanna Petcoff’s New Single

By Liwia BarwinskaNovember 22, 2018
Deanna Petcoff

Deanna PetcoffDeanna Petcoff is back with an energetic, bubbly single titled ‘Stress’. The song features powerful and dynamic indie rock elements, juxtaposed with her bluesy vocals. Petcoff does a great job of concealing intensely vulnerable, sometimes melancholy lyrics in a very anthemic and jangly melody.

‘Stress’ discusses the often hidden anger and frustration attached to intimacy and these feelings are mirrored in the explosiveness of the song. In her own words, the Toronto-based singer-songwriter shared that her new single is about “frustration, loss of hope and acceptance of a situation that will never be fixed. The unbearable weight of not feeling good enough for the person you want; thinking they might want you back but can’t follow through with their flirtatious actions is a common feeling. I wanted to encapsulate the frustration that accompanies this.”

There is something so raw and refreshing about the song not being instinctively sad but rather riddled with angst and passion which makes it all the more relatable. Even though ‘Stress’ encompasses the idea of loss of love and heartbreak, Deanna Petcoff approaches it from a different, much more honest perspective which highlights the much more fiery feelings attached to the breakdown of a relationship.
