Paranoia features a pick-n-mix of sounds but the one thing that transcends the eclectic instrumentals is Chinwe’s voice. Soft like butter with a touch of old-school it dips and soars. The East London artist sings about appreciating the present instead of looking behind, “you won’t like what you find, no no no, paranoia plays tricks on your mind.”

The self-taught musician started writing music from an early age. During lockdown, she experimented with the harp – an instrument she uses in her new music. The daughter of a Nigerian father and a Jamaican Mother, Chinwe enjoyed a range of music from an early age.

Chinwe says of her latest release Paranoia, “The single is about looking back on situations and feeling let down by people – like no one really has your back”, she explains. “Sometimes it changes you and you try to protect yourself from the same things happening again. But we’re all flawed as human beings and we can’t shut ourselves off from everyone. That’s kind of what the song is getting at – we all make mistakes, but hopefully we grow from them and embrace the lessons.”

Paranoia shows us a hint of Chinwe’s sophomore EP due for release in early 2023. We can’t wait.
