Since opening Vinyl Revolution, an independent shop for music lovers, founders Simon Parker, and Rachel Lowe decided not to take part in Black Friday. Instead, they have created Bowie Friday, a day which celebrates the life and music of David Bowie, and raises money for MacMillan Cancer Support.
Co-founder Rachel Lowe explains “Black Friday just didn’t sit well with us. It not only brings out the worst in human nature but also forces smaller shops into either making a financial loss in order to compete or raising their prices throughout the rest of the year to subsidise Black Friday discounts. We decided to do something fun and positive instead.”
When Simon and Rachel founded their Brighton based shop last year, they had two goals in mind. Creating a warm, welcoming and relaxed place to shop and producing their own range of music-themed Clothing, Art Prints, and Home items ethically and sustainably. They have worked hard to achieve both these goals.
On Bowie Friday this Friday November 23rd, 10% of sales revenue from all David Bowie products (vinyl records, posters and products featuring Vinyl Revolution’s own “Bowie Bolt’ design) will be donated to MacMillan Cancer Support.
And of course the only records you’ll hear being played in the shop this Friday will be by David Bowie.
