Mak Ro’s Cold: A Heartfelt Exploration of Love and Loss

Mak Ro's Cold: A Heartfelt Exploration of Love and Loss

Mak Ro’s single Cold from their album Love in the Dark comes across as an emotional slow burn.

There’s something magnetic in its simplicity—a smooth, haunting acoustic melody, matched with lyrics that sound as if they were meant to be whispered.

There’s something raw and relatable in lines like, “I didn’t wanna admit but I still want you / Like a curse ’cause I keep finding us in this position,” capturing the push and pull of a relationship that’s just not ready to let go.

The track captures the kind of tension between love and distance that’s too easy to get lost in, the feeling of wanting someone close but knowing there’s an ache that won’t go away.

Cold feels like it was made for a specific moment—maybe the end of a long night or when things go quiet, and you start thinking too hard.

If you’re a fan of Khalid or H.E.R, you’ll feel right at home here, though Mak Ro brings their own touch, avoiding predictable R&B cliches and instead going for something more stripped-down, more personal.

It’s easy to picture this song making its way onto playlists for anyone into that late-night, chill vibe that’s as introspective as it is soothing.

Mak Ro (cousins Eric Makapugay and Kristoffer Ruaro) has created something special in Cold.

From a seemingly random guitar riff that sparked their first song, their music has been one seamless flow since, and it’s not hard to see why.

There’s a natural chemistry here, a mix of pop, rock, and R&B influences that feels effortless.

Mak Ro’s debut album Love in the Dark is out now.

Mak Ro – Cold Lyrics

I didn’t wanna admit but I still want you
Like a curse coz I keep finding us in this position
When I run away, you run back
I feel a way, you hold back
like a runaway off-track

What if we break the cycle

Let’s stop pretending we don’t
Feel how we feel when we hold
Hold one another it’s cold
Baby it’s cold

I got the keys to the car
Let’s drive out till the morning
Just say the place and I’ll floor it
I’m down to go wherever
Nothing’s more important than us

I didn’t wanna admit but I still want you
Like a curse coz I keep finding us in this position
When I run away, you run back
I feel a way, you hold back
like a runaway off-track

What if we

Let’s stop pretending we don’t
Feel how we feel when we hold
Hold one another it’s cold
Baby it’s cold
