Bertie Newman Releases Introspective New Single I Will

Bertie Newman Releases Introspective New Single I Will

Based out of inner London, singer-songwriter Bertie Newman is officially back with his fifth single I Will. A heartfelt ballad, the 22-year-old Newman showcases a mature songwriting ability from start to finish. The Hackney-based artist began to make his name on TikTok, uploading various bedroom acoustic covers to the platform. Newman’s consistent hard work would pay off with his breakout cover of Alexander 23’s IDK You Yet. Going viral on Instagram and TikTok, it’s quickly closing in on 1.5 million streams on Spotify.

Even though the new release I Will has a somber feel, the track is multi-faceted in that it’s ultimately an uplifting and hopeful one. Luscious guitar strings and intimately mixed vocals draw the listener in, as Newman paints a story of being in love. Newman states “Until the morning sunrise, you can be my light.” Whether it be anxiety or hesitation about loving another, he’s able to “break from the thoughts I’ve known.”

I Will eventually reveals itself as a triumphant track as Newman reflects on his personal growth in terms of being more vulnerable about his feelings. Over the 3-minute duration, Newman does a fantastic job at keeping the song engaging through subtle switch-ups in the production. The track introduces itself with guitar strings and lyrics that give it a downcast undertone. As the chorus arrives, Newman repeats “I Will” amidst booming, echoing drums that heighten the sensation. The ethereal, ambient undertones of the production aid the overall warm feeling of the track and the contrast between the somber and uplifting feelings of the song seem to reflect the differences between the younger and older versions of himself.

Containing hints of early Bon Iver and Tom Odell, I Will is Newman’s most introspective blend of indie/folk yet. Releasing at the outset of 2023, it will be exciting to see where Newman’s guitar and soothing vocals take him next.
