London’s famous East End nightspot Hoxton Square was lit up by the likes of three hot Urban music acts for a charity showcase organised and hosted by Girls Against The Machine. Neon Music had the pleasure of watching Electro Pop duo MOONOVERSUN, rapper Ashnikko and Alt-Synth singer Mavi Phoenix showcase some of their best material to date. Kicking off with Moonoversun, band members Isaac and Sofia could easily be the new, and more psychedelic N-Dubz, with a fresh yet edgy sound and a fantastic energy on stage. To any hardcore fans of Moonoversun, you may remember the infectious “Girls/Boys” and the MIA-esque “Friendz,” and to all you newbies…check out their music right this very second.
However, it was Ashnikko that got Hoxton Square jumping, with her feisty attitude which throws you back to when Cher Lloyd first hit the mainstream Pop scene following her appearance on X-Factor back in 2010. With high-pitched vocals and effortless rapping skills. It’s specifically her “f*ck-off” attitude, very reminiscent of the UK’s Lady Sovereign, which drives the audience to feel as free-spirited and rebellious as Ashnikko, and her blend of Trap and Synth-Pop prepares you nicely for that upcoming rave. Ashnikko’s E.P ‘Unlikeable’ was released last year to positive reviews.
And…finally, the Girls Against The Machine charity showcase ended with multi-talented singer and songwriter Mavi Phoenix, who further to building a respected reputation for herself on the indie music circuit via the release of a huge portfolio of songs since 2014, delivered a fearlessly emotive performance, and we strongly recommend that you get yourself to one of her shows immediately. With strong Indie Pop vocals over Go Go-influenced Dance music, we are anticipating brand new music from Mavi Phoenix…the Tom Boy version of Sia. It has been over a year since the singer’s last release, the EP ‘Young Prophet,’ so watch this space for either a new EP or a full-length debut album, from Mavi Phoenix soon.
