Victoria Monét and Usher Unite for R&B Hit SOS (Sex On Sight)
Some musical pairings feel inevitable. Others catch you off guard. Victoria Monét and Usher’s “(SOS) Sex on Sight” does something else entirely—it fulfils a long-awaited promise.
Released on 27 August 2024, this track is pure R&B indulgence. Clocking in at over 4 minutes, it’s a refreshing departure from today’s bite-sized singles.
It is the first release from the deluxe edition of Monét’s latest album JAGUAR II.
Victoria Monét and Usher take their time, savouring every note and building a smouldering intensity that pays off in spades.
For Monét, this collaboration is a full-circle moment. Having long cited Usher as an inspiration, she now stands alongside him as a peer.
Their voices intertwine with an effortless chemistry that feels both fresh and familiar.
Monét provided insight into the song’s themes, explaining, “‘SOS (Sex On Sight)’ is about desire. It’s about the urgency you feel when you need some love, physical touch, and quality attention. Sometimes that desire can feel as urgent as being rescued from a natural disaster, or in this case, rescued from your own sensual urges. Just like a storm, SOS summons and forewarns a lover of the rainfall that is to come and welcomes the beautiful relief from that desire. It feels romantic, playful, sultry, and direct. Based in fantasy and the warmest tones of R&B. It feels timeless, and we hope you enjoy the escape!”
The duet follows a significant moment in Monét’s career when fans began clamouring for a collaboration after her spotlight performance during the penultimate night of Usher’s Las Vegas residency.
Earlier this year, Monét, along with Teyana Taylor, paid homage to Usher with a captivating performance of “Bad Girl” at the 2024 BET Awards, where Usher was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
The lyrics of “(SOS) Sex on Sight” take listeners on a journey through desire and urgency, wrapped in the lush textures of classic R&B.
Victoria Monét’s opening line, “I need that SOS, sex on sight, baby, it’s urgent,” immediately sets the tone.
The song isn’t coy about its intentions; it’s direct, confident, and sultry, reflecting a mature exploration of physical and emotional intimacy.
Usher’s response in the second verse adds layers to the narrative, echoing Monét’s urgency but with his signature smooth delivery.
His lines, “No waiting, I’m craving, let’s dive in, no hesitating,” complement the tension set by Monét.
Together, they create a dialogue that feels like a passionate conversation between two people who know exactly what they want.
The chorus brings it all together, with both artists harmonising on the hook, “SOS, I’m sending signals tonight, no distress, just need you on sight.”
The repetition of “SOS” cleverly plays on the idea of a distress signal, but in this context, it’s a call for connection rather than rescue.
As the song progresses, the bridge amplifies the intensity with the lyrics, “Caught up in the heat, can’t take it slow, got you on repeat, don’t wanna let go.”
Here, the song reaches its peak, both in terms of emotion and production, before gently easing back into the final chorus.
“(SOS) Sex on Sight” isn’t just about Monét and Usher showing off their vocals; it’s about their ability to express real emotions through lyrics that feel honest and relatable.
The song captures R&B at its best—sensual and refined—without relying on gimmicks.
In the end, the track leaves listeners with a sense of fulfilment, much like the artists themselves.
It’s a reminder that some collaborations are not just about making music but about creating a moment.

Let me fuck up all your plans, come put this work in
‘Cause I think it’s about time we take this all the way

Doesn’t matter ’cause they both gon’ fit you perfect
And I’m ready, so don’t make me have to do this on my own
Chorus: Victoria Monét
I am way too sexy
To be alone
Wanna show you what type
Of time that I’m on (What type of time I’m on)
Want you to come (Want you to come)
Send me your ETA
And when you lay me down
Pin my legs to the clouds
And I hope you’re ready for the rain
Post-Chorus: Victoria Monét
SOS, please
Let it fall, let it go
Verse 2: USHER & Victoria Monét
I got a question, though (Uh)
If I can make the time, are we good to go? (Oh)
Texting me X and Os
Can’t kiss, touch, lick, through the phone, though, oh
But I can make a cameo
In a movie only you see, keep it low
You my lil’ freak, I’ma go deep
Talkin’ ’bout way, way, way back
And when I hit it right in the right place
Look me right in the eyes, do what I say (Watch this)
Bend it over, throw it back, you and I, tongue-tied
I’ma kiss it good, good, good night (Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
Chorus: Victoria Monét & USHER
Say you’re way too sexy
To be alone (To be alone)
Wanna show you what type
Of time that I’m on ([?], babe)
Want you to come (I want you to come)
Send me your ETA (And I’ll be on my way, baby)
And when you lay me down (Down)
Pin my legs to the clouds (Clouds)
And I hope you’re ready for the rain (Mm, and I’m ready, baby)
