Rosie Darling’s This Is Me Letting You Go Turns Heartbreak into Pop Poetry

Rosie Darling's This Is Me Letting You Go Turns Heartbreak into Pop Poetry

Rosie Darling‘s latest single This Is Me Letting You Go is a sweet, delicate song that marks her first offering since her debut album Lanterns.

The song opens with a disarmingly simple confession: “I’ve been lying to myself / Been trying not to think about you.” And that’s where Darling’s strength lies – in making the deeply personal feel universal.

What’s particularly refreshing about this breakup tune is how it sidesteps the usual blame game.

Instead of pointing fingers, Darling crafts a narrative about self-discovery and growth.

The production, handled by Doug Schadt (who’s worked with the likes of Maggie Rogers), keeps things beautifully understated, allowing Darling’s ethereal vocals to take centre stage.

There’s something quite lovely about how the track builds. The verses feel like quiet moments of reflection, while the chorus, “No use digging it up and looking for closure,” hits with the sort of clarity that only comes after proper soul-searching.

It’s not trying to be clever or complicated; it’s simply honest.

The bridge section (“So I move on / Settle that dust”) is particularly brilliant – it’s got this sort of meditative quality to it like someone finally making peace with their past.

The repetition here doesn’t feel forced; rather, it mirrors the way we often need to tell ourselves the same truth several times before it really sinks in.

While Darling’s already amassed quite the following with over 250 million global streams, this single suggests she’s just getting started.

It’s a promising glimpse of what’s to come in her forthcoming project, expected in early 2025. If this track is anything to go by, we’re in for something rather special.

Rosie Darling – This Is Me Letting You Go

I’ve been lying to myself
Been trying not to think about you
And I hate that I do sometimes

Know it’s human nature
It’s a few years later
I still think about you
And I hate that I do sometimes

Hm

No use digging it up and looking for closure
Who cares what could’ve been if it’s already over
I remember us talking bout how healing happens slow
Took forever for the wound to close
But this is me letting you go

Used to say to me
The whole is greater than the sum of its parts
I don’t know if we are, I don’t know if we ever were

I felt like a failure
When it was your fault
I was a giver, wasn’t enough
But I am who I am and you are who you are
I guess that’s all we ever were

No use digging it up and looking for closure
Who cares what could’ve been if it’s already over
I remember us talking bout how healing happens slow
Took forever for the wound to close
But this is me letting you go

Hm
Letting you go
Hm

So I move on
Settle that dust
It was what it was
And it’s long gone
Hanging it up
It was what it was

So I move on
Settle that dust
It was what it was
And it’s long gone
Hanging it up
It was what it was

So I move on
Settle that dust
It was what it was
And it’s long gone
Hanging it up
It was what it was

This is me letting you go
I’m letting you go
