PEGGY Captures Nostalgic Romance on Friends To Lovers

PEGGY Captures Nostalgic Romance on Friends To Lovers

Singer-songwriter PEGGY transforms wistful longing into sonic gold with her latest single Friends To Lovers, a neon-tinged indie-pop capsule that channels the euphoria of realising your best friend might be your soulmate.

Released ahead of her upcoming EP COMING OF AGE, the track leans into the emotional grey area where friendship meets romantic fantasy.

The production layers dreamy synth textures over a propulsive rhythm section, creating an atmospheric soundscape that mirrors the emotional vulnerability of her confession.

“I wrote ‘FRIENDS TO LOVERS’ about that feeling of falling for someone who you’ve known for a while,” PEGGY explains, and this intimate revelation drives the song’s emotional core.

Her delivery shifts between vulnerability and soaring confidence, particularly during the anthemic chorus where she admits “I know it’s kinda selfish / To ruin our whole friendship.”

The production showcases sophisticated arrangement choices with the subtle guitar arpeggios that weave through crystalline keys while maintaining the track’s buoyant momentum.

PEGGY’s reference to “Marshall and Lily” during the bridge adds a clever pop culture touch that grounds the song’s sentiment in something endearingly familiar.

The accompanying music video, directed by Camryn Eakes, mirrors that energy: warm, nostalgic, a little cinematic, with each frame inviting you deeper into the fantasy.

PEGGY FRIENDS TO LOVERS Lyrics

Verse 1
I’ve read this story once or twice
I hate to say you’re just my type
We’ve known each other since we were ten
And everything has changed since then
But you’re the only constant in my life

Chorus
I know it’s overwhelming
But darling I can’t help it
Can’t wait ’til you discover
We could be, we could be friends to lovers
I know it’s kinda selfish
To ruin our whole friendship
Can’t wait ’til you discover
We could be, we could be friеnds to lovers

Post Chorus
(We could be, wе could be friends to lovers)

Verse 2
I used to see you as my equal (mmm)
But I have this feeling that won’t be the case after the sequel
I’ve watched a million movies like this
I know you might try to fight it
So I’ll give you time to change your mind

Chorus
I know it’s overwhelming
But darling I can’t help it
Wait for you to discover
We could be, we could be friends to lovers
I know it’s kinda selfish
To ruin our whole friendship
Can’t wait ’til you discover
We could be, we could be friends to lovers

Bridge
We could be friends to lovers
Already everything to each other
We could be friends to lovers
Marshall and Lily, we’ll never falter
We could be friends to lovers
Already everything to each other
From a slow burn into a fire
We could be, we could be friends to lovers

Chorus
I know it’s overwhelming
But darling I can’t help it
Can’t wait ’til you discover
We could be, we could be friends to lovers
I know it’s kinda selfish
To ruin our whole friendship
Can’t wait ’til you discover
We could be, we could be friends to lovers
