néomí’s Trigger: Raw Intimacy Meets Inevitable Heartbreak

Dutch/Surinamese singer-songwriter néomí delivers her most vulnerable offering yet with Trigger, a haunting ballad that captures the silent devastation of loving someone you know you cannot keep.

The track serves as another compelling preview of her upcoming EP Another Year Will Pass, set for release on 31st October 2025 via Nettwerk.

Built upon delicate finger-picked acoustic guitar and ethereal ambient swells, Trigger showcases néomí’s mastery of intimate folk arrangements.

Her naturally raw vocals take centre stage, which makes listeners feel as though she’s performing directly in front of them.

The song’s sparse instrumentation serves the emotional weight of the narrative, with each guitar note carefully placed to enhance rather than overshadow the vocal delivery.

Trigger explores the impossible choice between holding on and letting go, capturing the tension of inevitable heartbreak where every path leads to pain.

The song’s central theme revolves around the heart-wrenching reality of being deeply in love with someone whilst knowing the relationship cannot survive.

Speaking about the track’s creation, néomí explains: “The song is so real and painful I don’t think it needs a lot of explaining.

It’s about being deeply in love with someone you know it will not work with. You’ve never felt like you really want to hold on, but you know either way it’s going to hurt”.

Trigger follows the warmly received singles Do You Want To Be Honest? and It’s Never Easy (Leaving Someone Behind), marking néomí’s first releases since signing to Nettwerk.

Having won an Edison Award for her 2024 debut album somebody’s daughter, néomí has established herself as a compelling voice in contemporary folk-pop.

Her distinctive blend of indie folk and poetic pop invites listeners to sit with their own thoughts, to wander with her, and to find comfort in the beauty of simply being human.

The accompanying music video, directed by Dirkje Duwel, draws inspiration from iconic western stand-offs, creating a visual metaphor for the internal conflict explored in the song.

Trigger’s strength lies in its unflinching emotional honesty and néomí’s ability to transform personal pain into something universally meaningful.
