Martin Luke Brown 'animal' Review: An Uptempo Rebellion Against Modern Life

animal by Martin Luke Brown brings uptempo indie-rock energy to modern escapism.

His rhythmic vocals bounce over driving percussion and buzzy guitar lines, while vintage synths add a layer of contemplative warmth captured through old-school tape machines.

“About once a week I get a deep urge to retire from capitalism and run off into the woods,” Brown admits, and this tension powers the track’s dynamic flow.

The verses (“Deep it tho in my concrete cage”) ride on groove-heavy bass lines, building into an infectious “la la la” chorus that somehow makes existential questioning feel like a dance party.

Fresh off touring with Emily King and Sam Tompkins, Brown and producer Matt Zara embrace the beautiful mess of analog recording.

Each handclap, tape hiss, and deliberately unpolished moment adds to the track’s paradoxical charm.

Overall, animal is a feet-moving meditation on trading screen time for berry-picking.

MARTIN LUKE BROWN animal Lyrics

Deep it tho
In my concrete cage i sit alone
watching people on a screen and I hope
That one day i’ll be like them

I just wanna eat berries
Fill my belly
Never wait til i’m ready just go
Follow my nose
Be with my friends
Hang with my bros
But everyone knows
This is just the way it goes
This is just the way it goes

la la la
this is all i’ve ever known
la la la
but i wanna let it go
la la la
I am not incredible, no no
I’m just an animal
Just an animal

Hear me out
One day i’ll be 6 foot in the ground
Man i’m a miracle unfolding now
And anything could happen

But i just wanna drink honey
Burn my money
Leave this city and start a new town
Build a nice house
Grow my own food
Chill on my couch
But everyone knows
This is just the way it goes
This is just the way it goes

la la la
This is all i’ve ever known
la la la
but i wanna let it go
la la la
I am not incredible, no no
I’m just an animal
just an animal
