It started with Tyla playing her unreleased album in a Los Angeles studio.

Months later, Lisa posted a teaser with just one line: “Had the best time making this music video with Tyla.” 

What followed was When I’m With You—a steamy, mid-tempo track buried deep in the tracklist of Alter Ego, released February 28, 2025.

It could’ve stayed an understated album cut, but instead, it got the visual treatment, summer-ready wardrobe and all.

And somehow, what might’ve been a throwaway collab turned out to be one of Lisa’s most effortless flexes.

Co-produced by Ari PenSmith, P2J, Sammy Soso, and Mocha, the track leans into soft R&B grooves, with syncopated percussion and a muted, lo-fi foundation.

It’s not lush or layered in the usual sense—it’s skeletal by design. The space between beats lets every word breathe, every breath carry weight.

This is not a song built for TikTok tempo; it’s made for late-night slow burns and heatwaves.

This isn’t missing choreography—it becomes the choreography. The sway, the hush, the tension—it’s all built into the atmosphere.

That production restraint, ironically, is where its richness lies.

Tyla opens the track like a sigh. There’s already loss in the air. The tone isn’t desperate, just realistic—this won’t end cleanly, and she knows it.

Tyla slips into her own mood here. She’s blurring boundaries, revelling in the mischief.

It plays like the lover-girl anthem of the summer—unbothered, a little dangerous, and completely self-aware.

It’s sexy, sure, but there’s a kind of theatrical surrender in it too. Pride is gone. Rules are irrelevant. And she wants it that way.

The chorus works because of its simplicity. There’s no punchy hook or surprise twist—just a repeated phrase that deepens in weight the longer you sit with it.

Lisa’s version of romance starts with status. This isn’t subtle flexing—it’s setting the tone. She’s not just choosing a partner, she’s curating a lifestyle.

The verse escalates quickly into full braggadocio. She’s not just desirable—she’s omnipresent. Love interest or not, you’ve already seen her. She’s everywhere.

A playful nod to Tyla’s song Jump and a clever lyrical baton pass. It’s less about rivalry and more about doubling the power. It’s collaborative hype.

This line’s so sharp it should come with a disclaimer. A global rollout in 13 words.

“Quick trip, won’t wait and I’m there for you / Good girl, I’ll dare, but I’m bad for you”

More contradiction. She’ll show up for you, but it might wreck you. Love here isn’t romantic—it’s ravenous.

“I like that side of me when we get together / I’m way better”

It ends with transformation. This love isn’t about the other person. It’s about who she becomes in the chaos.

Layered vocals, fluid back-and-forth delivery. It feels like the two voices are echoing each other inside the same thought spiral.

And when Lisa joins in on Tyla’s melodic lines, it becomes less of a duet and more of a shared identity.

Directed by Olivia De Camps, the video takes place during a record-breaking summer heatwave—and you can feel it.

Lace-up heels, mirrored pools, and sultry wardrobe changes set the tone.

There’s a scene where Lisa fans herself while Tyla lounges in a salon, and the juxtaposition of glamour and sweat-soaked intimacy is its own form of storytelling.

There’s no choreo-heavy sequence here, which disappointed some fans hoping for a “Beautiful Liar”–style showdown.

It almost teases a choreography break that never arrives—but that’s the trick.

The track is the choreography. Subtle. Hot. Moody. It moves without needing to explode.

Add in a cameo from Mason Gooding, a throne made of ice, and a late-night rainstorm, and you’ve got a video that’s more about vibe than narrative.

When I’m With You isn’t engineered to be a chart-buster—it’s the kind of track that finds you at 2am when your judgement is clouded and your guard is down.

Tyla’s softness and Lisa’s controlled dominance make it feel like a push-pull dance where no one really wins, but no one’s trying to.

It’s not the flashiest track on Alter Ego, but it might be the most intimate. The most honest.

And that, more than choreography or virality, is what makes it a standout.
