Jenny Kern “Bones” Single Review

By Lucy LernerOctober 27, 2025
Jenny Kern "Bones" Single Review
From the first shimmering guitar chord of “bones”, Jenny Kern stakes out territory where indie-folk and emotive pop merge.
The Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter self-produces the track, layering subtle, moody synths beneath her intimate vocal delivery.
Her voice is direct, the lyric “it’s cutting right down to my bones” framing an ache of letting go that few songs articulate so clearly. The imagery feels visceral and immediate (the cold throat, the branded skin).
Kern doesn’t merely accept loss. She pauses in the moment where hope still lives, the lungs stretched thin, the silence after the call doesn’t come.
Comparisons to Phoebe Bridgers and Lizzy McAlpine feel apt, yet Kern maintains her own identity within the indie-folk sphere.
This song will sit in your head, not just because of the catchy chorus, but because it is achingly personal and universally relatable.
