Hazlett Unveils Introspective Single doing my best Following North American Tour Launch

Hazlett Unveils Introspective Single doing my best Following North American Tour Launch

Australian-born, Sweden-based troubadour Hazlett dropped doing my best on February 14 via Nettwerk, marking his first release of 2025.

The timing coincides with his ongoing 21-date North American tour that kicked off February 15 in Salt Lake City.

On doing my best, Hazlett navigates the delicate terrain between vulnerability and resilience.

The track finds him processing internal struggles with disarmingly straightforward lyrics:  “I’m okay but kinda upset / Told my mum I’m doing my best.”

This emotional honesty creates an instant connection, especially when paired with his distinctively warm vocal delivery.

Hazlett builds a textured landscape where minimalist beginnings evolve into something more expansive.

Gentle finger-picked guitar patterns establish a foundation before drums and piano gradually enter, creating crescendos that mirror emotional breakthroughs.

The production maintains an intimate quality while still allowing space for climactic moments, particularly during the repeated “So I’m gonna live in my head” chorus that anchors the song.

“I wanted that same heart-on-my-sleeve sentiment, but with a little more gusto,” Hazlett explained about the track, which accomplishes exactly that through its careful sonic build and authentic storytelling approach.

The Glynn Parkinson-directed video complements the single’s introspective nature, providing visual context to Hazlett’s continuing artistic evolution within the indie-folk world.

Hazlett doing my best Lyrics

So long, goodnight
Watch me go and put it upstairs
How come warm lights
Have a way of making me scared
I know what you liked
But don’t know what you like

I’m okay but kinda upset
Told my mum I’m doing my best
It’s too late to go and get rest
So I’m gonna live in my head
(Oh no, oh no no)
(Oh no, oh no no)

Cold cup warm stay
Growing up and learn to make tea
Fall comes, too late
Life is short and worrying me
I know what you liked
But don’t know what you like

I’m okay but kinda upset
Told my mum I’m doing my best
It’s too late to go and get rest
So I’m gonna live in my head
(Oh no, oh no no)
(So I’m gonna live in my head)
(Oh no, oh no no)
(Live in my head)
(So I’m gonna live in my head)
