Gracie Convert, a London-based singer-songwriter, drops Comme Avant, a tantalising teaser from her upcoming debut EP, Eau Secours, a bilingual voyage of nostalgia that showcases Convert’s uncanny ability to weave together different musical and linguistic strands into a tapestry of pure emotion.

She seamlessly fuses jazz, pop, and soul influences with a hint of Bossanova. Convert sings Comme Avant in both English and French, proving her linguistic prowess is as impressive as her musical talent. This bilingual dexterity adds an extra layer of intrigue to the song but also amplifies its core message, a wistful reflection on a past relationship that, like many things, has irrevocably changed with the passing of time.

The track is an elegy to a love that was, in essence, wrong yet utterly intoxicating. Convert’s lyrics are a brave confession of how the allure of instant gratification can sometimes outweigh the negative repercussions of an unhealthy relationship. Her words are an earnest echo of a phase we’ve all been through: falling for the ‘wrong’ person, especially when we’re still finding our feet in the game of love.

Musically, Comme Avant is a triumph of subtle sophistication. Smooth jazz chords intertwine with a catchy melody and a groovy bass line, creating a sonic environment that’s as warm and cosy as it is melancholic. The song takes listeners through a wide range of emotions, all while keeping them tapping their feet to the rhythm.

Comme Avant is the second track we’ve been graced with from Convert’s forthcoming debut EP, Eau Secours, which is set to drop on August 18th, 2023. If the two released tracks are any indication, the 4-track EP promises to be a soul-stirring journey.

With Comme Avant, Gracie Convert invites us on a reflective journey into the depths of past love, reminding us that it’s not just the language of love that’s universal but also its trials and tribulations.

Stay tuned, folks. The journey with Gracie Convert is just getting started, and it promises to be one heck of a ride.
