Escape Reality with Exxy’s Dreamy New Single Joyride

By Lucy LernerApril 29, 2023
Escape Reality with Exxy's Dreamy New Single Joyride

Exxy’s new single Joyride is a magnetic song that captures the essence of escapism. The LA singer-songwriter has crafted a distinctive bassline that immediately sets the tone for the song, pulling the listener in with its irresistible groove. The lyrics, which talk about taking a new body for a joyride, invite the listener to join in on the fun and forget about their troubles for a little while.

I’m tired of looking through these two eyes,
I’m fried from thinking inside this mind,
Wish I could take a new body for a joyride,
New brain I wouldn’t fill up with fear,
New name, nobody would know me here,
Sounds great, I’m ready to disappear.

The catchy melody and airy vocals give Joyride a dreamy quality that complements the theme of escape perfectly. Despite the more serious themes of anxiety, (“Have no worries, no I keep it carefree, go for a joyride before my joy dies,”) the way the song has been crafted keeps it light and moreish. Exxy’s vocals are soft and ethereal, adding to the track’s overall ambience. As the song progresses, the instrumentation builds, adding layers of complexity to the infectious bassline. The result is a track that demands to be listened to on repeat, with each listen revealing something new.

Exxy explains more: “Through the years, songwriting has been a healthy outlet for me to express my feelings – the positive and the difficult. The idea for “Joyride” started at the end of a long day where I was feeling drained by my own anxiety. I had this image in my mind of a doctor surgically implanting a brand new brain into my head that was carefree and a blank slate. I ran with that vision as I wrote the lyrics. I’m so thankful for the opportunity to turn hard experiences into something artistic and creative. It’s a rewarding silver lining.”

Exxy continues to push listeners’ buttons with her compelling music releases and Joyride is the perfect song to take you away from the weight of life – at least for a little while.
