Confused by Philine: A Lullaby for the Love-Lost and Unsure

Confused by Philine: A Lullaby for the Love-Lost and Unsure

“You told me that you were attracted to safe drivers, made me nervous, nearly crashed into another car.”

And just like that, philine pulls you into the awkwardness of love’s early stages—where every glance and touch feels like a test you weren’t prepared for.

In confused,  she paints those moments we’ve all been in: when a crush throws you off balance so hard you forget how to exist for a second.

Philine’s voice is like a comforting whisper on a late-night drive. It’s soft, yet there’s a crackle in it, a tension that makes the sweetness bittersweet.

Her vocals drift over clean, melodic guitar riffs that feel like a summer breeze—calm, but with enough weight to remind you of something you can’t quite put your finger on.

And just when you think you’ve settled into the softness, subtle synth layers sneak in, giving the song a contemporary shimmer.

It’s that perfect balance of retro warmth and modern polish, creating a sound that doesn’t demand attention but steals it anyway.

The song moves with a rhythm that’s as steady as an unsure heartbeat.

The drum pattern taps gently in the background, steady but not heavy-handed.

And then there’s that bass line—warm and smooth, the kind that holds everything together without trying too hard.

It’s the kind of track you could imagine scoring the background of a film scene where two characters share a quiet, uncertain moment—perhaps in a car, perhaps under streetlights, perhaps both.

Philine sings about a romance that doesn’t quite make sense on paper—“You know you’re not my type, nothing like”—but it’s the confusion that’s oddly compelling.

Her lyrics are so casually specific they make you feel like you’ve been handed someone’s open diary, but instead of feeling intrusive, it’s comforting.

There’s a vulnerability in the way she delivers her lines, like she’s still trying to figure out how she got here.

And that’s where confused gets its emotional weight. It’s not a song about love—at least not the capital “L” kind.

It’s about that strange in-between phase, where you don’t know what to call it but you can’t stop thinking about it.

“Secretly now I’ve been writing songs about you,” she admits, hinting at the intimacy that comes with obsession but also the discomfort of not having the words for it.

Philine doesn’t try to make sense of it all; she just lets the confusion linger, and somehow, that feels like the truest part of the story.

The song’s vulnerability is also enhanced by how carefully her phrasing aligns with the instrumentation.

The timing of her vocals feels so deliberate, almost as if the words are an extension of the rhythm itself.

She sings like someone who’s unsure of what she’s feeling but is still compelled to keep going, and in that hesitation, there’s beauty.

“Words like love should be avoided. It’s too soon for that,” she sings towards the end, and it’s as if she’s telling herself more than anyone else.

The hesitancy, the second-guessing—philine captures the heart of a relationship that’s barely begun but already feels like too much.

philine confused Lyrics

I got distracted when I heard you talk
I lost my focus when you touched my arm
You told me that you were attracted to safe drivers
Made me nervous, nearly crashed into another car

Our first date wasn’t even great
Had to stay over cause I missed my train
Felt like you kissed me as a favour, didn’t feel good until later
When you called me for a second date

Secretly now I’ve been writing songs about you

I feel so confused, girl
You got me feeling something new, girl
I feel so confused, girl
Cause you know, you’re not my type
Nothing like
But you’re all that’s on my mind
I’m so confused, girl

We see things so differently
You save the world, I try to sing in key
You’re losing sleep over our planet, got me questioning what matters
In a subtle way, you’re changing me

Now I feel so confused girl
You got me feeling something new girl
I feel so confused girl
Cause you know you’re not my type
Nothing like
But you’re all that’s on my mind
I’m so confused girl
I’m so confused girl
Cause you know you’re not my type
Nothing like
But you’re all that’s on my mind
I’m so confused girl

Words like love should be avoided
It’s too soon for that
What if I just can’t just ignore it?
Oooh

I feel so confused girl
You got me feeling something new girl
I feel so confused girl
Cause you know you’re not my type
Nothing like
But you’re all that’s on my mind
I’m so confused girl
I’m so confused girl
Cause you know you’re not my type
Nothing like
But you’re all that’s on my mind
I’m so confused girl
