Bryce Fox’s Shadows: A Lyrical Exorcism of the Past’s Haunting Grip

Bryce Fox's Shadows: A Lyrical Exorcism of the Past's Haunting Grip

Bryce Fox’s Shadows new single is a bold confrontation with the inescapable ghosts of our past selves.

It’s a seamless blend of electronic and acoustic elements, creating a sonic mosaic that underscores the track’s introspective verses and anthemic choruses.

With its opening chorus, Shadows ensnares the listener with an unyielding intensity, laying bare the emotional turbulence that accompanies the confrontation of one’s inner demons, unvarnished and raw.

Bryce Fox’s vocals cut through the mix like a sharp blade, slicing through the metaphorical veil that separates our present from the shadows that linger.

The chorus, a resounding symphony of defiance, encapsulates the song’s central conflict:

“These shadows of old seem to come back around / They battle me, rattle me, why god now / Hang around like a bad tattoo, I’m black and blue, I just don’t know / Will I ever be me without all of these?”

It’s a raw, visceral admission of the constant struggle to outrun the past, a sentiment that resonates with profound universality.

Shadows not only embody feelings of sorrow; it’s a fierce proclamation of resilience.

Fox’s lyrics intricately weave together vulnerability and strength, reminding us that, while the past may haunt us, it doesn’t have to define us.

“Baptized in the light ’til the night call / Remember me, used to be who you first loved,” he sings, invoking the possibility of rebirth and reclamation.

As the track builds towards its climax, Fox’s lyrics and delivery shine through the intricate wordplay.

Bryce Fox reflects, “We put a tremendous amount of value and importance on being present and thinking about our future. And as much effort we put on those two things, there’s just as much of our past that either helps or gets in the way of our progress. For me, I feel like there’s a healthy amount of both; however, at times, it feels like there is a more negative impact that prevents my growth or how I’m perceived. This song was written when I was going through some sh*t and feeling stifled by past shadows—mistakes, moments, acquaintances, and depression. Realising you can “move on” but not truly start over is a tough reality to reconcile with.

Bryce Fox Shadows Lyrics

Chorus:
These shadows of old seem to come back around
They battle me rattle me why god now
Hang around like a bad tattoo, I’m black and blue I just don’t know
Will I ever be me without all of these

Shadows, shadows, shadows
Shadows, shadows, shadows

Baptized in the light ’til the night call
Remember me, used to be who you first loved
I’d like to think, that I don’t see
But these type of things the mirror won’t show

I feel it like my skin
It’s creepin’ through my lonely silhouette
Oh here we again

Chorus:
These shadows of old seem to come back around
They battle me rattle me why god now
Hang around like a bad tattoo, I’m black and blue I just don’t know
Will I ever be me without all of these

Shadows, shadows, shadows
Shadows, shadows, shadows

All said when it’s all done
Last call for the old ones
Shape-shifted and then some
When the past comes and takes me back
Outlasted the new blood
With old stains on a new rug, both eyes staring at ya
Looking backwards in an everlast

I feel it like my skin
It’s creepin’ through my lonely silhouette
Oh here we again

Chorus:
These shadows of old seem to come back around
They battle me rattle me why god now
Hang around like a bad tattoo, I’m black and blue I just don’t know
Will I ever be me without all of these

Shadows, shadows, shadows
Shadows, shadows, shadows

Shadows, shadows, shadows
Shadows, shadows, shadows
