Angus Legg’s 12th of May: Romance That Slipped Through Time

Angus Legg’s 12th of May: Romance That Slipped Through Time

On his new single ‘12th of May’, Angus Legg sings about leaving behind a brief but intense romance and sitting with the realisation of whether it was ever meant to last.

The writing is very descriptive:

First date
Spilt wine
Stuck on your radiant green eyes

One taste
Two limes
Bruising our backs on the skyline

These are snapshots of a relationship rather than full scenes, which makes the loss feel sharper somehow. When he sings “missing you in June feels way too soon,” it cuts deep because the timeline is so short. You can feel how little time they had to make it real and how bruised he feels in his delivery.

“12th of May” is the day I left to move to London, I left someone behind I wasn’t sure geography or timing would permit reconnection with.”

The song is delicate at first. Stripped-back acoustics carry the early verses, giving Legg’s vocals the space to feel exposed. Then the track opens up. Strings begin to swell underneath before lifting everything into something more cinematic.

’12th of May‘ doesn’t chase closure. It describes the brief time where something meaningful happened. And that has to be enough.
