Adan Diaz’s ‘Young Picasso’: A Fresh Take on Indie Romance

Adan Diaz's 'Young Picasso': A Fresh Take on Indie Romance

Remember when love songs felt like handwritten letters instead of hasty text messages?

Chicago’s rising indie artist Adan Diaz nails this nostalgic sweetness in Young Picasso, a piano-driven ballad that’s basically what would happen if your favourite romance novel grew legs and started singing.

The song’s production is delightfully minimalist – a gentle piano progression laying the foundation while strategically placed violin swells and organ notes peek through like sunshine through curtains.

Diaz’s vocal delivery switches between intimate whispers and confident declarations, particularly shining in lines like “I wouldn’t have the heart to draw your flaws, I’ll never get you right.”

What’s refreshing is how the track flips the usual sad-love-song script.

Instead of wallowing in heartbreak, it celebrates the giddy uncertainty of new love.

The reference to The Last of Us in the lyrics adds a clever modern twist to the traditional “growing old together” theme, making this vintage-feeling track surprisingly current.

Young Picasso comes from Diaz’s six-track EP ah-dawn, marking an impressive debut that suggests he’s just warming up.

Adan Diaz Young Picasso Lyrics

Verse 1:
If i could buy a palace would
You be my queen you can
Move in, bring your family
I’ll treat you like royalty

Pretty like a marigold
Timeless like a movie scene
I’m not looking where we’re gonna end
So can we sit right in the in-between

Cause i’m so scared to tell..you

Chorus:
Love songs are for girls
That look like you
And baby something about you
Makes me feel brand new

I wear my heart on my shoulder
If you take it i’ll stay
And if they steal our tomorrow
At least you kissed me today

Verse 2:
If i was a young picasso
And try to paint you a million times
I wouldn’t have the heart to draw your flaws
I’ll never get you right

I wanna love you till we’re getting old
Breakfast, dinner, same routine
It’ll be just like the last of us
When you’re dying in your bed with me

But i’m so scared to tell you

Chorus:
Love songs are for girls
That look like you
And baby something about you
Makes me feel brand new

I wear my heart on my shoulder
If you take it i’ll stay
And if they steal our tomorrow
At least you kissed me today
