Mike Watson Is ‘On Fire’ With His Latest Single

Mike Watson‘On Fire’ is the latest single from Manchester-born singer-songwriter, Mike Watson. It follows his debut single, ‘Lying For Love,’ which gained an astonishing 750,000 Spotify streams in just over 6 months. The demand to see Watson perform live was so great he underwent a UK-wide tour for his fans last year.

Music has always played a pivotal role in Watson’s life, especially since he was encouraged by family members, who were also musical. He is now an accomplished guitarist, drummer and songwriter. YouTube was used as a platform for Mike Watson to showcase his music and through it, he built his fanbase. On his YouTube channel, his fans could watch him perform covers from a range of artists; from Anne Marie to Martin Solveig. Both artists tweeted their support of his covers. As a live performer, Watson has had the incredible opportunity to open for Maroon 5 and Magic!

‘On Fire’ is a song which is upbeat, yet the lyrics are quite sombre. This is similar to Bastille’s ‘Good Grief’ in the way that it covers the topic of dealing with complicated emotions with a song that is really catchy and fun to listen to. On writing ‘On Fire’ Watson comments: “This song was one of the hardest songs I’ve written. I ended up changing the verse three times and the chorus twice, ending up with a mix of all of them. It’s a sentiment I really wanted to get across, about admitting you’ve found someone who has a hold over you and not being afraid to show it.”

Mike Watson has worked with key writers and producers of Little Mix and The Kaiser Chiefs to hone his own unique blend of contemporary pop. If ‘Lying For Love’ was his introduction to the world of pop music, then the emotive and anthemic ‘On Fire’ demonstrates that the hugely talented singer is here to stay.
