Moncrieff’s Shangri-La: Euphoria in Retrograde

Moncrieff’s Shangri-La walks straight into chaos with glitter on its face.

Laced with spangled synths, syncopated percussion, and dopamine-drenched vocals, the track captures a high you don’t want to come down from.

“There is a story, but it’s more of a feeling. And the feeling is being intoxicated,” he explains—and that intoxication burns through every line.

“You’re the only film in my cinema,” he sings, with a kind of breathless honesty that makes the line feel more confessional than cinematic.

Wrapped in neon-lit beats and airy backing vocals, the chorus bursts like confetti: “Swimming deep in euphoria / Our dream life in utopia.”

It’s indie pop with a sugar rush—giddy, flirtatious, and slightly unhinged.

The second verse leans into Moncrieff’s signature honesty: “She learned it on the internet / We’re like something American,” a wink and a warning in the same breath.

The song isn’t built to be analysed in silence. It’s made for the sticky hours of the night—where logic slips, sweat sticks, and bad ideas feel brilliant.

Moncrieff leans all the way in, eyes wide open, knowing full well it’s a fantasy. And that’s exactly what makes Shangri-La feel real.

Shangri-La is the latest song to be taken from Moncrieff’s debut album, Maybe It’s Fine, set for release on May 9 via Warner Music Central Europe.

Moncrieff Shangri-La Lyrics

VERSE 1
Sweetest Taste
On my tongue like lemonade
You’re my favourite holiday
Where we lose our minds and track of time
In a purple haze
I’m Lying with you half awake
Naked just the way we came
You’re the only film in my cinema
So I’ll take your time
And you can finish all of my lines
I never thought that I’d find, you

CHORUS
Shangri-la
Swimming deep in Euphoria
Our dream life in Utopia
Its just me and you (sha la la la la, Sha la la la la)
You’re my Shangri la
Dance all night in euphoria
Making love in Utopia
Making love to you

VERSE 2
The little death
She learned it on the internet
We’re Like Something American
Just a teenage dream
On A Movie screen
Oh Higher we go
We’re Falling down like Dominos
This world is our Kaleidoscope
Where We turn and we twist
We touch and we kiss
We Sway and We swing and we never miss
You give me those eyes and I can’t resist
This magical world is where we exist tonight (la la la la)

CHORUS
Shangri-La
Swimming deep in Euphoria
Our dream life in Utopia

Its just me and you (sha la la la la, Sha la la la la)
You’re my Shangri la
Dance all night in euphoria
Making love in Utopia
Making love to you

BRIDGE
Sha la la la la la la la la la
Sha la la la la la la la la la
Sha la la la la la la la la la
Sha la la la la la la la la la

CHORUS
You’re My Shangri-la
Swimming deep in Euphoria
Our dream life in Utopia
Its just me and you (sha la la la la, Sha la la la la)
You’re my Shangri la
Dance all night in euphoria
Making love in Utopia
Making love to you
