Swedish duo Pom Femme, Michelle Amkoff and Philippa Magnusson, embrace theatrical excess with “Telenovela,” the title track from their debut EP released via Bolero Recordings.
The pair have built their identity on what they call “French decadence,” and this latest offering leans fully into that aesthetic whilst adding a playful wink to soap opera dramatics.
The production marries vintage textures with contemporary polish. Pulsing basslines anchor sweeping synths and guitar riffs that feel simultaneously retro and current.
There’s a deliberate kitsch quality here (cheap perfume, monsoons of tears, prima donna theatrics) that the duo wears proudly rather than ironically. When they chant “I’m your love supreme,” it feels both absurd and genuinely affecting.
Lyrically, the track navigates a love triangle with soap opera flair. The repeated directive to “go tell her” creates urgency, whilst lines about living “head in the clouds” capture that heightened emotional state. It’s melodrama by design, but Amkoff and Magnusson understand the assignment.
With a debut album planned for 2026, Pom Femme are framing each release as an episode in an ongoing narrative.
“Telenovela” succeeds because it commits entirely to its concept. There is no hedging, no apologies, just pure melodramatic pop executed with conviction and style.
