Thinkin’ Bout Me by Morgan Wallen: Lyrics Breakdown & Meaning

What is “Thinkin’ Bout Me” by Morgan Wallen about?
It’s a song where jealousy, ego, and suspicion all come dressed in smooth guitars and a head-nodding beat.
Morgan Wallen’s Thinkin’ Bout Me explores what happens when you know your ex is already moving on, but you’re convinced she’s still thinking about you while doing it.

Released as the sixth single from One Thing at a Time on 7 September 2023, the track blends country pop with trap influences.
It was written by John Byron, Ashley Gorley, Taylor Phillips, and Ryan Vojtesak, and produced by Charlie Handsome and Joey Moi.
Wallen, speaking about the album’s sonic shifts, said:
“I’ve got a few different sounds and stuff that I’ve never experimented with before on this album… all the songs say something different too.”
The lyrics don’t just suggest doubt. They turn it into a slow-burning confrontation.
“When you’re tasting what he’s drinking, are you thinkin’ ’bout me?” isn’t just rhetorical.
It’s designed to needle both the ex and her new guy. There’s an emotional triangle here, and Wallen positions himself right at the apex, watching the whole thing collapse from a distance.
Musically, it’s both sparse and slick. The chord structure hovers around an E-D-C-A pattern, with layered guitars doing most of the melodic lifting.
Beneath it, a programmed 808 beat gives it that brooding trap weight, pushing Wallen’s clipped vocal cadence forward.
The hi-hats rattle like a warning. The beat feels exceptionally synthetic and completely overshadows the guitars, while still matching the “sour, vindictive mood”.
The mood turns darker as the lyrics spiral into paranoia.
“Did you change my name?” “Do you hide your phone?”
Each line becomes another breadcrumb of suspicion. Whether or not she’s actually doing these things doesn’t seem to matter. What matters is that he believes she might be.
And fans online have plenty to say. One reaction video caught the moment where the beat drops and the lyrics tighten.
“Whatever this girl did to him was dirty,” the reviewer says, while admitting the guitar tone and layering are “musical as hell.”
Others pointed out that the song hits hardest if you’ve ever been left wondering whether someone’s really over you, even when they’re clearly with someone else.
Despite being wrapped in insecurity and ego, the track’s charm lies in its catchiness.
The internal rhymes move quickly. “Comin’ over tonight, wish that truck in your drive was mine / Just like you know it’s supposed to be” flows in a way that sticks.
There’s swagger here, but also something more desperate underneath.
Chart-wise, Thinkin’ Bout Me was a monster. It hit:
- #7 on the Billboard Hot 100
- #1 on Billboard Country Airplay
- #1 on Canada Country
- Top 10 on Global 200 and NZ Hot Singles
- Certified 3× Platinum in the US
The song became one of the standout moments from One Thing at a Time, often featured in Wallen’s live shows.
It also adds to his genre-crossing strategy, echoing earlier tracks like You Proof and Wasted on You with its mix of country grit and hip-hop haze.
This is not a breakup anthem for healing. It’s a taunt dressed as a question. A flex disguised as concern.
And maybe that’s why it connects. Because sometimes, it’s easier to wonder if they’re still thinking about you than admit you’re still thinking about them.
So maybe the better question is: If she’s really moved on, why are you still checking?

Morgan Wallen Thinkin’ Bout Me Lyrics
Verse 1
Don’t know where you at, don’t know where you’ve been
Don’t know nothin’ ’bout that boy you’re into
Don’t feel bad for you, but I feel bad for him
And all the hell you gon’ be puttin’ him through
Probably tell him we’re a burnt out flame
Probably tell him that I ain’t been on your mind
How I ain’t nothin’ but a long gone thing
You can cuss my name, but baby, don’t you lie
Chorus
When you’re tastin’ what he’s drinkin’, are you thinkin’ ’bout me?
When you’re ridin’ where he’s drivin’, are you missin’ my street?
Every time you close your eyes, tell me, who do you see?
When you’re tastin’ what he’s drinkin’, are you thinkin’ bout me?
Comin’ over tonight, wish that truck in your drive was mine
Just like you know it’s supposed to be
When you’re up in his bed, am I up in your head?
Making you crazy, tell me, baby, are you thinkin’ ’bout me?
Are you thinkin’ ’bout, are you thinkin’ ’bout
When you’re tastin’ what he’s drinkin’, are you thinkin’ ’bout me?
Verse 2
Do you hide your phone? Did you change my name?
When he wants to go to our go-to place
Do you tell him you can’t? Then go out of your way
To be somewhere, any damn where I ain’t
Chorus
When you’re tastin’ what he’s drinkin’, are you thinkin’ ’bout me?
When you’re ridin’ where he’s drivin’, are you missin’ my street?
Every time you close your eyes, tell me, who do you see?
When you’re tastin’ what he’s drinkin’, are you thinkin’ ’bout me?
Comin’ over tonight, wish that truck in your drive was mine
Just like you know it’s supposed to be
When you’re up in his bed, am I up in your head?
Making you crazy, tell me, baby, are you thinkin’ ’bout me?
Are you thinkin’ ’bout, are you thinkin’ ’bout
When you’re tastin’ what he’s drinkin’, are you thinkin’ ’bout me?
Don’t know where you at
Girl, I know where you oughta be
When you’re tastin’ what he’s drinkin’, are you thinkin’ ’bout me?
When you’re ridin’ where he’s drivin’, are you missin’ my street?
Every time you close your eyes, tell me, who do you see?
When you’re tastin’ what he’s drinkin’, are you thinkin’ ’bout me?
Comin’ over tonight, wish that truck in your drive was mine
Just like you know it’s supposed to be
When you’re up in his bed, am I up in your head?
Making you crazy, tell me, baby, are you thinkin’ ’bout me?
Yeah, are you thinkin’ ’bout me?
Are you thinkin’ ’bout me?
