Luca Wilding releases his accomplished debut Heartachers today. It is filled with pain, with love and the longing for what once was. Despite being written for a friend in the early stages of mental illness, the lyrics and melancholy tone could relate to so many circumstances and emotions within us.

“Heartachers is about learning to let go of what was. It was meant as a kind of call to arms; an invocation of the strength it takes to overcome the mountains of the mind. It tells the simple story of trying to love someone through all their pain and despite their sadness.” – Luca Wilding

Heartachers manages to be sad and uplifting. It feels the listener with hope as the instrumentals swell and driving drums push through the pain. Luca’s raw and wavering vocals were once vulnerable at the beginning of the song and now are strong. With stripped back acoustics, soul-bearing lyrics, and a two-part track with melancholy and then resolution, Heartachers is a thing of beauty.

Lord I was lonely without you,
But you never thought twice about me
For I’m just the ghost of old Carwyn, I know
And I’ll go back to my grave in your dreams

Luca Wilding’s debut album via Abbey Records is something to look forward to later this year.
