Linebug’s When We Find It Resurrects a Lost German Town Through Haunting Folk

Linebug's When We Find It Resurrects a Lost German Town Through Haunting Folk

Linebug‘s new single When We Find It is a spellbinding song to add to their collection.

The song opens like a tender letter to lost places, with Bøgh’s ethereal vocals floating over intimate acoustic arrangements.

The duo handle such weighty material gracefully – the story of Eythra, a town that was demolished to make way for brown coal mining, and most of its residents were relocated to Plattenbau apartments near Leipzig.

Where Eythra once stood, there is now Zwenkauer See, and all that remains of the town are the memories of its former residents.

It’s the kind of song that makes you realize how rarely we hear Eastern Germany’s stories told with such care and nuance.

What’s fascinating is how this fits into Linebug’s larger artistic vision. After spontaneously relocating from Denmark to the former industrial town of Zeitz during the pandemic, the duo has created exquisite sonic portraits of places others might overlook.

When We Find It feels like the natural evolution of their work on tracks like Rainbows in Hoywoy, where they manage to acknowledge historical wounds while pointing toward healing.

“When We Find It” is an ode to a village, that was once full of life and community. It’s also an ode to ‘home’ as something that you can keep inside of you, even when it’s not here anymore, or maybe even something that can change, as you live your life” – LINEBUG

The production of When We Find It maintains an artful simplicity that leaves room for the story to breathe.

For a duo that typically pairs their music with projected artwork, they’ve created something remarkably visual through sound alone.

When We Find It (and Linebug) find beauty in the most unexpected places.

Linebug has crafted something that feels both timely and timeless. It’s the kind of song that makes you want to explore every forgotten corner of your own world, just to see what stories might be waiting there.
