JAPA by Michael O. is An Afrobeats Song For Your Playlist

For an uplifting and feel-good Afrobeats vibe, look no further than JAPA from the singer-songwriter and Nkenne startup founder Michael O.

The NewYork-born native with Nigerian heritage fuses elements of R&B with Afrobeats-inspired sounds to create a vibrant and infectious track.

JAPA means to flee in Yoruba (a Nigeria language) slang. It’s about many Africans forced to seek a better life in the western world. The track serves as a unifying anthem, encouraging people of all backgrounds to return and tap into their ancestral lineage.

The track is co-produced by Michael and Harvey Mason Jr., the CEO of the Grammy Awards.

JAPA is the lead single on Michael O.’s upcoming EP, to be released in 2023.
