The first teaser trailer for Invincible season 2 was released in January 2023, two days before the comic series’ 20th anniversary. It shows Mark and Allen the Alien having a meta-conversation about the long wait for the new season at a Burger Mart diner. You can watch it below:

The teaser also confirms that Invincible Season 2 will have eight episodes, just like Season 1. Each episode will be around 45 minutes long.

You might be wondering why it took so long for Invincible Season 2 to be produced. Well, according to showrunner Simon Racioppa, who spoke to TechRadar in March 2022, the Invincible crew has been working hard on season 2 for a long time. He explained that animation is a complex and time-consuming process that requires a lot of work from different departments.

So, while we might be impatient for Invincible Season 2 to come out, we can appreciate the effort and dedication that go into making such a high-quality show.

Plot

Invincible season 2 will continue the story of Mark Grayson as he deals with the aftermath of his father’s departure from Earth. He will also face new threats and challenges from various villains, such as Thragg, the Flaxan Empire, and the Mauler Twins.

Thragg is a Viltrumite warlord who is Omni-Man’s superior and wants to conquer Earth. He is one of the most powerful and ruthless enemies that Mark will encounter in season 2.

The Flaxan Empire is an alien race that invades Earth multiple times in season 1. They have advanced technology but age rapidly in the Earth’s atmosphere. They will return in season 2 with a new leader and a new plan.

The Mauler Twins are a pair of identical clones who are brilliant scientists and criminals. They have a rivalry with Robot and often try to create their own army of clones.

Mark will also meet new allies and friends in season 2, such as Titan, Robot, and Rex Splode.

Titan is a super-strong criminal who works for Machine Head, a crime lord who controls most of the underworld in Chicago. He has a wife and daughter, whom he loves dearly and wants to protect from his boss. He will ask Mark for help overthrowing Machine Head in season 2.

Robot is a mysterious genius who leads the Teen Team, a group of young superheroes that includes Atom Eve, Rex Splode, Dupli-Kate, and Monster Girl. He has a secret identity and a hidden agenda that will be revealed in season 2.

Rex Splode is a cocky superhero who can make objects explode by touching them. He is Atom Eve’s ex-boyfriend, and he cheated on her with Dupli-Kate. He will join Mark’s team in season 2 after leaving the Teen Team.

The showrunner, Simon Racioppa, has teased that season 2 will have a large or small focus on another big villain from the comics, but he didn’t reveal who it is. He also said that season 2 will not follow a specific arc from the comics but rather adapt and remix different elements to create a unique story.

We’re not really following any one arc, he told TechRadar. We’re kind of taking bits from different arcs throughout [the comics]… We’re kind of doing our own thing.

Future seasons

Invincible Season 3 has already been confirmed by Amazon. The show was renewed for two more seasons in April 2021, just a day before the season 1 finale aired.

The showrunner, Simon Racioppa, has confirmed that season 3 is being developed alongside season 2. He also said that there will be a smaller gap between their release dates than between seasons 1 and 2.

We’re working hard on both seasons right now, he told TechRadar. We’re hoping that there will be a smaller gap between seasons 2 and 3 than there was between seasons 1 and 2.

He also denied the rumours that season 4 had been secretly greenlit by Amazon. He explained that the show is not guaranteed to have more seasons beyond season 3 and that it depends on viewership and feedback.

We haven’t been picked up for season 4 yet, he said. We’re hopeful that we will be, but we don’t know for sure. It’s really up to the fans and how they react to seasons 2 and 3.

He added that he has a plan for ending the show if it gets cancelled after season 3, but hopes it won’t come to that.

We have an idea of how we would end it if we had to end it in season 3, he said. But we don’t want to do that. We want to keep going as long as we can.

Conclusion

Invincible Season 2 is one of the most anticipated shows of 2023. It will continue the story of Mark Grayson and his superhero journey as he faces new enemies, allies, and challenges. It will also adapt and remix some of the best arcs from the comics while adding its own twists and surprises.

We can’t wait to see what Invincible Season 2 has in store.

If you haven’t watched Invincible, you can catch up on Prime Video before season 2 arrives.
