Death Stranding: Mosquito — Kojima Productions’ Animated Film Sets a New Story in the Strand World

Death Stranding: Mosquito — Kojima Productions’ Animated Film Sets a New Story in the Strand World

Kojima Productions has revealed an animated film project titled Death Stranding: Mosquito (working title), produced with ABC Animation and built around a new, self contained story in Hideo Kojima’s strand world.

The studio names Hiroshi Miyamoto as director and Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners, Raised by Wolves) as screenwriter, with Hideo Kojima producing.

The announcement landed during the Beyond the Strand 10th-anniversary presentation alongside an official teaser, with title and release date to follow.

The studio’s brief sets the tone: the film “will chart a bold, original story within the surreal and emotionally resonant world Hideo Kojima created.”

This separates the project from a direct retelling and clears the path for a lead who is not Sam Porter Bridges.

Guzikowski’s statement underlines the creative intent: “I love the world of Death Stranding, it’s so creatively freeing, so beautifully dark and yet hopeful; I’m so excited and honored that Hideo Kojima, whose work I’ve long admired, has invited me to dwell within his creation, to birth new stories into this fertile, mind-bending universe.”

The pairing of that mission with animation suggests room for the series’ liminal biology and beach imagery to play without over explaining.

The teaser points to a tighter tempo than the series’ quiet traversal: close-range clashes between porters, a mask that sprouts a probing tendril, and a canine presence that nods to the world’s otherworldly ecology, presented with premium finish that fits a film project rather than a quick spin off.

Writer director Michael Sarnoski describes the A24 feature’s aim as to “capture the soul of the game, capture the themes of the game, but tell a story you haven’t seen in that world and explore characters you haven’t seen before.”
