Danish Folk Duo Linebug Unveils The Creek: A Haunting Ode to East German Heritage

Danish Folk Duo Linebug Unveils The Creek: A Haunting Ode to East German Heritage

Danish folk duo Linebug captures the essence of a humble stream in their latest single, The Creek.

Inspired by Altenburg’s historic Blaue Flut, the song offers a unique perspective—told through the voice of the water itself.

Line Bøgh and Christian Gundtoft discovered their muse while in Saxony-Anhalt, crafting a melody that flows like a medieval nursery rhyme.

Bøgh’s lyrics weave tales of “bishops and duchesses, writers and drunks,” blending history with a haunting melody.

Gundtoft’s hand-drawn animations add a visual layer, portraying life along the waterway with charm and authenticity.

As part of Linebug’s album Portraits of Invisible Places (due 14 March 2025), Creek is one of ten songs documenting overlooked East German towns through music and animation.

LINEBUG The Creek Lyrics

I’m the creek
The invisible stream
The rain of a hundred lifetimes
I’m the tears
That fell in these streets
The patterns of a thousand timelines

Oh, what memories I carry with me
Of bishops and ducheses and kings
Oh what dramas I got to see
For better for worse I can’t help
But sing

I know all the mothers and the maidens
I follow each destiny
I have mirrored thousands of faces
That came to confide in me

Writers and poets and drifters and drunks
Players who lost everything
I have listened to everyone
For better for worse I can’t help
But sing
