Dive into the world of Arctic Lake, the London-based duo comprising the soulful vocalist Emma Foster and the versatile multi-instrumentalist/producer Paul Holliman, the duo has recently unveiled their latest single, Fool.

This track isn’t just a melody; it’s a story, a reflection, and a confession. With Emma Foster’s ethereal vocals and Paul Holliman’s chameleon-like musical prowess, they weave a soundscape that’s both familiar yet wrapped in a mystery, swathed in layers of sonic emotion

Emma Foster, the voice behind the poignant lyrics, reveals, “One of my best friends was in a really volatile relationship; over the space of two years I watched her slowly disintegrate.” This personal observation became the foundation of Fool, a song that delves deep into the anguish and self-doubt that comes from witnessing a loved one in a toxic relationship. The lyrics, raw and unfiltered, echo the sentiment: ‘Eating away at me/ Keep fraying at the edges’ and the powerful chorus, ‘I’m a fool to let you break me / I’m a fool to let you change me.’

Paul Holliman, reflecting on the song’s creation, recalls, “Fool came together really quickly at the end of a session – we’d tried three different ideas that day and nothing was working.” It was Emma’s persistence that breathed life into Fool. As Holliman humorously shares, “It was 5:00 p.m. so, in my mind, we were calling it, but Emma wanted to try something else… I was very ready to head to the pub instead, and we would never have made this little tune that we ended up really liking.”

From its gentle guitar riff introduction to its anthemic chorus, Fool promises to be a track that resonates with many – a haunting ode to the complexities of love and relationships.
