Write Like A Girl Announces UK Tour To Put The Spotlight On Women In Music

By Marcus AdetolaApril 25, 2018
Vic Allen

Write Like A Girl‘Write Like A Girl’ consists of three female artists who are touring the UK in May, celebrating women in music everywhere. Beth Keeping, Emily Faye and Vic Allen met last year when they were writing in Nashville and feeling disheartened at the gender imbalance on the US country scene yet inspired by the craft of Nashville songwriters – the singer-songwriters decided to host a music tour to put the spotlight on female songwriters.

It’s easy to see why Write Like A Girl feel disappointed. The Hot Country charts in the USA show the huge disparity between the number of high-selling male and female artists. And this issue extends much further than country music. A recent USC study showed that in the past 6 years only 12% of songs in the Billboard Top 100 had a female songwriting credit. And here on the UK live scene, in 2017 on one night just 9% of live music acts were female-only (The Guardian, 2017).

This new movement, Write Like A Girl aims to put female songwriting talent back on the map as well as encourage more women to create music. Beth Keeping says of the movement, “We want to show that female writers have a unique voice to bring to the table. We also hope to create an environment where women celebrate each other’s talents and successes and cheer one another on.”

They will share the stage in a round-style performance and take it in turns to play a selection of their latest releases. Each date will also feature a guest act from the local area.

Vic AllenThe Write Like A Girl tour begins in Vic Allen’s local town of Norwich on 9th May and finishes in London on 24th May. Find out more here.

Vic Allen has recently released her EP ‘Between the Lines’ and is currently recording her debut album with an independent record label set for release this Autumn.
