Sam Tompkins’ Time Will Fly Soars High With Soulful Honesty

By Marcus AdetolaJune 9, 2023
Sam Tompkins' Time Will Fly Soars High with Soulful Honesty

In his latest single, Time Will Fly, Sam Tompkins weaves soul-stirring vocals and unflinchingly honest lyrics with a magnetic pull impossible to resist. The song is a poignant reflection on his life journey, from his teenage dreams to his current success.

It ushers listeners into his world with a gentle piano melody that harmoniously intertwines with his voice.

Sam Tompkins – Time Will Fly

From the onset, he offers a raw, undiluted exploration of a tumultuous journey, delivering hard truths about growing up.

“You’re gonna meet some new friends, but one’ll die / Then you’re gonna be depressed, and that’s fine / You may even find love a few times / Then you’re gonna break up, but that’s life”.

The track is not just about lows; it is an anthem for ambition and determination. “You’re out weekly, now you’re only sixteen / On Ship Street, working on a big dream / To make an EP and throw it on a CD / Then radio, on repeat,” Tompkins croons, revealing his aspirations and the relentless pursuit of his dreams.

The chorus, a catchy hook with the line, “Time will fly / Run away from you / And it’s alright / It’s what you’re made to do,” encapsulates the essence of the song as it details the inevitability of the ups and downs of life but also an ode to embracing purpose and passion. There’s also a whisper of a dream for a moment of pure peace and happiness: “To one whole night where you don’t have pain in you“.

Time Will Fly does not plateau there, as it reaches new heights in the second verse. Here, Tompkins delves deeper into his career journey and the hurdles encountered: “You’re gonna meet your hero, you know the guy / Yeah, you’re gonna go far, that high / People will sell you dreams enough times / But you’ll read the TC’s and dotted lines“.

It’s a clear testament to his wisdom and grit in navigating the treacherous terrain of the music industry.

The track takes a surprising turn with a spoken-word interlude. The poignant segment sees Tompkins expressing his wish to speak to his younger self, offering guidance and support: “I think it’s a shame that you can’t talk to your younger self / ‘Cause a lot of the time when I was younger / I needed someone exactly like me to show up and be there when I needed them / But, I’m there for them now“.

Tompkins injects another layer of vulnerability, making the song more relatable and emotionally resonant.

Time Will Fly is a poignant reminder to savour every fleeting moment of life. We are excited and all in for a beautiful ride.
