Joji’s “If It Only Gets Better” Is Either Brilliant or Just Really Short

Strip club visuals meet existential crisis in what might be the year's most confusing track

Joji's "If It Only Gets Better" Is Either Brilliant or Just Really Short

Joji has dropped “If It Only Gets Better,” a track from his upcoming album Piss In The Wind (yes, really), and honestly, we’re still trying to figure out what just happened.

The track opens in a strip club with all the visual energy you’d expect, then immediately hits you with… delicate acoustic guitar? Where’s the bass drop? The trap hi-hats?

Instead, producer Wonton said “let’s keep it sad” and delivered possibly the most melancholic strip club anthem ever created.

The entire lyrical content boils down to: “If things get better, why bother changing anything?” It’s the kind of logic your mate uses to justify not going to the gym, except Joji makes it sound poetic.

The rest is just “ooh, ooh, ooh, which, fair enough, sometimes that’s all you can say.

Mixed by Jeff Ellis and clocking in at what feels like two minutes, the track has Reddit debating whether this is deep artistic expression or just an elaborate album teaser. The video, directed by Mamesjao, leans into the confusion beautifully.

Here’s the thing though: it kind of works? Joji’s built his career on making sadness sound beautiful, transitioning from Filthy Frank to genuine artist.

If Piss In The Wind delivers more of this weird, vulnerable energy, we’re here for it.

Whether this is genius minimalism or just really good marketing for 2026’s album remains unclear. Either way, it’s distinctly, unapologetically Joji.
