Before I Have A Daughter By Bre Kennedy Is An Indie Folk Gem
Indie/folk-pop singer and songwriter Bre Kennedy is back with a new single Before I Have A Daughter. A confessional, vulnerable track that is a raw and instantly relatable indie folk gem. Bre sets the tone brilliantly, throwing you headfirst into her world and would-be life experiences with airy and heartfelt vocals on lush guitar-driven instrumentals that add authenticity to the impactful tale Bre channels in her lyrics.
“In the last few years, I have been building a relationship with my mother for the first time in my life. When I wrote this song I knew I wanted to incorporate that beautiful part of my healing with my mother and the one growing with her mother as well. Everyone’s family story is different and what is most important to me with mine is working towards healing and I feel very lucky I’ve been able to find that before I have a daughter. This video begins with my mother and I going through photos from my childhood… some I was seeing for the first time. It was important for me to shine a light on strong mothers and fathers and their beautiful family stories too. This video was filmed & directed by Hannah Gray Hall. Footage of me, my mother and grandmother filmed by Tabitha Turner. Guitar by Austin Webb and piano performance by Jake Finch.” – Bre Kennedy
Co-written with Lori McKenna, Before I Have A Daughter is a coming-of-age song about Bre growing into the woman she is, finding acceptance about the beauty in the mess of life, and celebrating how far she’s come as a woman before she has a daughter of her own.
