5 Seconds of Summer’s “NOT OK” video review

By Alex HarrisOctober 9, 2025
5 Seconds of Summer “NOT OK” video review

5 Seconds of Summer’s “NOT OK” video is a messy, caffeinated blur through neon-lit streets and sweaty basement shows, and the band leans all the way into it.

Luke Hemmings shows up in a nun’s habit for one bit, the camera whips from grimy alleys to strobe-lit clubs, and the whole thing has this unhinged energy that matches the song’s “f*ck it, bite the apple” vibe.

The video dropped October 9th, 2025, a few weeks after the single, right ahead of their album Everyone’s a Star! on November 14th.

The song itself is darker pop-rock with bite – huge drums, a bouncy bassline, and a guitar hook that lodges in your brain immediately.

The writing credits include Hemmings, Calum Hood, Ashton Irwin, JHart, Sarah Hudson, Jason Evigan, and Mark Schick, with production from Evigan and Schick.

It’s the band chasing vice and adrenaline without abandoning the melody, which is why the video’s chaos works instead of feeling like too much.

The direction is slick and restless, made for repeat views. You get fiery cityscape shots, DIY concert chaos, and those weird little detours; the nun costume, some sauce gag that keep it playful instead of self-serious.

It looks like someone’s wildest night out compressed into a three-minute rush.

Bottom line: “NOT OK” nails the vibe fast. Big hook, jittery editing, a bit of theatrics, and proof that 5SOS knows how to turn a mess into something that moves.
