SpaceAcre Takes Listeners On An Emotional Ride With Familiar

SpaceAcre Takes Listeners On An Emotional Ride With Familiar

Sink into the all-consuming experience that is Familiar, the latest release from SpaceAcre. It will fulfil any dream pop fan’s musical needs, with contrasting influences artistically combined to create a dark, intense atmosphere. Jas Scott and Phoebe Little take listeners on a turbulent emotional ride; they put their hearts and souls into this track, and for just over three minutes, we get an insight into the pain of “non-romantic heartbreak” that inspired the song.

In the intro, pulsating, silky vocals blend with fluid bass and plucky strings to lull listeners into a dreamlike state before launching into an explosive chorus the pair describe as “a bit of a battle cry.” Formerly loose, floaty sounds become fiercer and more passionate, tethered by a slow but driving drumbeat. The haunting intro and verses put us into a trance, but in the chorus, anger bubbling under the surface is released, setting us free. The music video reflects this, featuring ethereal underwater shots, flashing lights, and captivating close-ups of Little and Scott in which their passion and sincerity shine through.

SpaceAcre’s upcoming EP Chemicals will continue along these lines, drawing on personal experiences and themes of discrimination. Coming from very different musical backgrounds, the pair have found a way to combine their sounds to create a mesmerising new entity; if Familiar is anything to go by, we certainly have something to look forward to from SpaceAcre in the New Year.
