An exciting artist from 2017 is creative South-Londoner Daniel Alexander who is a multi-instrumentalist who creates hard-hitting alt R&B, post-rock electronica and even directs and edits his own videos. Here he is with the politically charged ‘Separatehood’ which is taken from his debut EP Unfree’ as well as previous hits ‘DOUBLEGLAZEDGAZEDOWN’ and ‘The Gulf’.
The singer-songwriter has been championed by Metro with ‘Artist of The Day’, The 405 and picked up playlists and plays at radio including Amazing Radio, Huw Stephens’ BBC Radio 1, Zane Lowe’s Beats and John Kennedy’s Radio X.
Daniel Alexander’s political views are portrayed in the documentary-style visuals for ‘Separatehood’ which he directed and edited himself. The music video deals “with the results of our debilitating individualism on a daily basis”, he explains, “organised religion offers spiritual guidance for the collective, yet it is often complicit in the crimes of those in glass cathedrals, of those in high office.” ‘Separatehood’The track reflects the emotionally charged lyrics with a combination of jarring electronica and bluesy soul; sirens adding to the heightened, ominous feeling.
Daniel Alexander will be opening for Local Natives’ Kelcey Ayer’s solo project as Jaws of Love in the 2018 EU and UK tour.
